Traveling with just a carry-on is an art form, especially when you're off for a quick trip and want to maximize space without compromising on style or comfort. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a short business trip, having the right accessories can make all the difference. Below are some essentials that help me pack smarter and stay organized while still bringing everything I need.

The Versatile Tote

First up, a reliable tote. This serves as my purse for the trip and carries a range of essentials. In my tote, you'll always find:

  • Water bottle (staying hydrated is key)

  • Snacks for the airport or road (because hangry is real)

  • Electronic accessories like charging cords, AirPods, and my laptop

  • A handbag or smaller purse if it won’t fit in my carry-on—just pop it in the tote for travel day!

The beauty of the tote? It’s multi-purpose! Use it as a beach bag, gym bag, or larger day bag once you’re at your destination. You can also get creative and match it with different outfits.

Outfit Planning is Everything

When you're sticking to a carry-on, planning outfits ahead of time is essential. I try to coordinate day-to-night looks, using versatile pieces that can be dressed up or down. Also, don’t forget your pajamas!

One of my favorite space-saving hacks, especially in colder months or when I’ve overpacked, is using roll-vacuum bags for bulkier items like sweaters, jackets, or scarves.

Toiletries That Travel Light

When it comes to toiletries, I love to streamline things with a good-quality toiletry bag and some clever accessories.

My favorites include:

  • Mini containers for moisturizer and daily medicine. They take up hardly any space, and I love knowing I’m bringing just what I need. (And, Mexico TSA won't take my 3.2 oz moisturizer again!)

  • Refillable perfume spray bottles—I’m obsessed with these! They allow me to bring multiple fragrances without sacrificing precious space.

Wear Your Bulkiest Items

One of the oldest tricks in the book is to wear your heaviest or bulkiest items on travel day. Yes, I am that person wearing jeans and my Vejas on the plane, and yes, I will probably pair that with a blazer in the fall or winter months. It might not be the coziest look, but it saves serious space in my carry-on, which I’d rather fill with more exciting things like extra outfits or that cute souvenir on the way back.

Additional Travel Accessory Hacks

To make the most out of your travel experience and stay ultra-organized, here are a few more accessories I can’t travel without:

  • Packing cubes: These are a game changer for keeping your carry-on organized and ensuring you know where everything is.

  • Portable charger: Never get stuck with a dead phone mid-trip. A compact portable charger is a must-have for any travel bag.

  • Travel laundry bag: A foldable, washable laundry bag keeps dirty clothes separate from clean ones.

Packing light for a short trip doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style or comfort. With the right accessories, you can make the most of your carry-on while keeping things organized and versatile. Whether you're beach-bound or heading to a business conference, these travel hacks will help ensure you're prepared for any adventure!
