USA map with pinpoint in Palm Springs, CA

Palm Springs has long been on my bucket list. Ever since I saw Slim Aarons' iconic photograph Poolside Glamour, I’ve dreamed of experiencing the chic, sun-soaked vibes of this desert oasis. This winter, I finally made it happen, and Palm Springs did not disappoint. If you're considering a winter escape to this stylish destination, here's how to make the most of your trip.

Getting There: Fly Straight to the Heart of Palm Springs

If possible, fly directly into Palm Springs International Airport (PSP). Not only does it save you time, but the airport itself is a unique experience. With its open courtyard design, it's unlike any other airport I've visited. While it may not offer a wide array of dining options, the convenience and charm more than make up for it.

Embracing Winter in the Desert

Winter in Palm Springs is a unique experience. While the evenings can be cool, the daytime temperatures are perfect for exploring the area. The desert climate ensures that even in winter, you'll enjoy plenty of sunshine and pleasant weather, making it an ideal time to visit.

Discovering Mid-Century Marvels on an Architecture Tour

One of the highlights of my trip was an architecture tour, which I highly recommend to anyone visiting Palm Springs. The Palm Springs Historical Society offers a variety of tours showcasing the city’s famous mid-century modern architecture. Be sure to check the schedule ahead of time to see which tours are available during your visit.

Staying in Style: The Kimpton Rowan

For my stay, I chose the Kimpton Rowan, a fantastic hotel located right in downtown Palm Springs. The location couldn’t have been better—everything was within walking distance, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. The hotel itself is stylish and comfortable, making it the perfect home base for exploring Palm Springs.

Experiencing the Palm Springs International Film Festival

We were lucky enough to visit during the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which added an extra layer of excitement to our trip. The festival brought a lively energy to the city, with plenty of events and activities to enjoy. If your visit coincides with the festival, it’s a must-see.

Artistic Inspiration at the Palm Springs Art Museum

No trip to Palm Springs would be complete without a visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum. The museum’s collection is impressive, but two exhibits stood out to me in particular: the Pablo Picasso exhibit (one of my all-time favorite artists) and the Meditations in Glass exhibit.

Planning Ahead for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

One activity we had on our list was taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up the mountain. However, the top was covered in snow, leading to long wait times. If you’re planning to do this, I highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance to ensure you can experience the breathtaking views from the top without the hassle of waiting in line.

Dining in Palm Springs

Palm Springs offers a lot of fantastic dining options. Some of the highlights from our trip included:

4 Saints: A rooftop restaurant with stunning views and delicious cuisine.

Eight4Nine: A trendy spot with a vibrant atmosphere and a diverse menu.

Wilma and Frieda’s: A must-visit for breakfast or brunch, known for its comfort food with a twist.

Juniper Table: It offers a fresh and contemporary take on classic dishes, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal after a day of exploring.

Caffeine Fix: Exploring Palm Springs’ Coffee Scene

I’m someone who tends to drink more caffeine while traveling, as I love exploring new coffee shops where I can people watch and spend time planning my next move. In Palm Springs, I found two great spots: Cafe La Jefe and Koffi. Both offered excellent coffee and a relaxed vibe, perfect for a mid-morning break.

Palm Springs in winter offers the perfect blend of relaxation, culture, and adventure. Whether you're soaking up the sun by the pool, exploring mid-century marvels, or indulging in the local food and coffee scene, this desert gem has something for everyone. So pack your bags, grab your sunglasses, and get ready for a glamorous winter getaway to Palm Springs! Extended Layover in Palm Springs.
